Home Laundry & Product Care Care Instructions Cotton Care

Cotton Care

Although cotton is one of the easiest fabrics to care for, these tips will help ensure maximum enjoyment and longevity.

Do not overload the washing machine!

Cotton benefits from room to swim around inside the machine. If the machine is overloaded, the fabrics will scrub against each other.

Wash separately from other fabrics, and separate your colours

Cotton should be washed separately from other fabric types. It is also important not to mix different types of cotton together. Always wash sheets and towels in separate loads.

Whites, colours and darks should always be washed separately.

Proper washing machine settings

  • Do not use liquid fabric softener, bleach, or detergents containing bleach
  • Suggested to use a mild soap such as Linen Wash or Ivory. Specialty fabric soaps are best.
  • Use the "gentle" cycle
  • Do not use the "water saver" feature - cotton needs water to swim around in!
  • Use moderate temperatures. Never use hot water. Dust mites will still wash away in cold water with a quality linen wash.

Proper dryer settings & ironing

Always dry cotton on a low heat setting. High quality cotton will dry very quickly. It is very important not to over dry the fabric. Try to remove from the dryer immediately at the end of the drying cycle. If you press your linens, it is best to iron while still slightly damp.

Cotton Towels

Abyss cotton towels are desirable as they are super absorbent, being crafted exclusively of 100% Giza 70 Egyptian Cotton. To ensure they remain absorbent wash after wash, we recommend Le Blanc Towel Wash.

Follow the basic guidelines above, and ensure you're only washing towels on their own, never with other articles of clothing or bedding.
