| Home → Duvets & Comforters → Compare Duvet Fills |
The Mattress & Sleep Company have carefully assembled our range of popular duvet fill materials in an effort to make it easier to compare the differences between the various options. Typically, the lightest duvet is preferred. A lighter duvet is less likely to interfere with your sleep. For example, an ultra light weight Eiderdown duvet is often likened to sleeping under a warm cloud of air. A light duvet is also beneficial to those suffering from rheumatism or arthritis. When not weighed down by a heavy blanket turning over in bed is much easier. If a heavier duvet is prefered then we would look more to silk or wool for our fill of choice.
The most efficient filling materials will also work in the largest range of temperatures. This means ultra high quality fills such as Eiderdown may be incredibly light weight, yet still provide more than adequate insulation in cooler bedrooms or during the winter, even in ultra light or light fills. In fact a regular weight Eiderdown duvet is so incredibly warm that it is only intended for non-heated bedrooms during the winter!

In an ideal situation, our blanket should be as light as possible. When we sleep, our movement should not be restricted. When comparing the various fill types above you'll notice a significant difference from one to the next. It quickly becomes clear how efficient each fill type insulates. Eiderdown is truly far superior from anything else in this respect. On the other hand of the spectrum it takes quite a bit of silk or sheep's wool to provide the same level of warmth. In some cases, four times the weight is required to achieve similar warmth.
