There are a number of easy things you may do to prolong the comfort, support and durability of your mattress.
It is recommended to purchase your new mattress with the matching foundation. Here are some points to consider.
If you're using a platform bed (ie: mattress only, no foundation/boxspring):The platform cannot be entirely covered over by boards. A mattress is sensitive to moisture. Body heat warms up the mattress. If a warm surface heats up a cold surface and there isn't adequate ventillation, condensation will form. If your mattress contains polyurethane or memory foam, this process can cause mould to form. Moisture also degrades all foam varieties faster, decreasing the useable life of your mattress.
Do not place a new mattress on an old boxspringIf your existing boxspring is as the name implies, a spring, it should not be used. To tell if your existing foundation is the spring type, simply push on a corner or edge. If it is flexible, it's a spring type box.
It's a sleep system for a reasonGreen Sleep builds each of their beds as a sleep system. Although a Green Sleep mattress on it's own is still one of the finest mattresses in the world, the system is designed to provide better ergonomics. The dowels or dowels & slats (depending on the model) are designed to absorb energy. This will extend the life of your mattress as now there is an additional layer designed to take stress off of the natural rubber and/or coils. Imagine your car without shocks, it wouldn't last long and it certainly wouldn't be as comfortable!
A mattress protector (mattress pad/cover) is designed to reduce allergens, prevent stains, protect your warranty rights, and most importantly, to maintain a healthy sleeping environment.

Bed sheets are the first place for bothersome allergens to accumulate, meaning that regular washing will keep your bed in good condition and your sleep environment healthy.
Make sure you wash your mattress protector (mattress pad/cover) as well!
Start with a light sprinkling of baking soda, and then use the hand attachment to vacuum your mattress. Baking soda acts as a binding agent for dead skin cells and will help to remove allergens from your mattress.
Even though most of today’s mattresses are built “one-sided,” it is still important to rotate your mattress end-for-end regularly. Rotating your mattress will help ensure that the comfort layers wear evenly over time.
As always, consult the warranty card that came with your mattress and adhere to the manufacturer's requirements if they differ from our suggestions here.
When you have your new bed delivered, have the old one removed and disposed at the nearest eco station. If it wasn’t good enough for you, it’s not good enough for anyone else!
No, you won’t go to prison for removing it, but you may give up your warranty rights. It’s also important to keep the mattress label intact. Should you ever have a warranty issue, the mattress manufacturer will need the label.
When you receive your new mattress and foundation, let it air out for a few hours before making the bed for the first time. Even with mattresses that do not off-gas, there may be excess moisture caused by the packaging materials and this will be a good opportunity to let everything dry out.
