Proper Mattress Care

There are a number of easy things you may do to prolong the comfort, support and durability of your mattress.

Tip #1: Use a high quality mattress protector

A mattress protector (mattress pad/cover) is designed to reduce allergens, prevent stains, protect your warranty rights, and most importantly, to maintain a healthy sleeping environment.

Tip #2: Wash your bedding regularly

The consensus is that washing your sheets bi-weekly is a good compromise on cleanliness and minimizing environmental impact.

Make sure you wash your mattress protector (mattress pad/cover) as well!

Tip #3: Vacuum your mattress

Start with a light sprinkling of baking soda, and then use the hand attachment to vacuum your mattress. Baking soda acts as a binding agent for dead skin cells and will help to remove allergens from your mattress.

Tip #4: Rotate your mattress 180° every 6 months

Even though most of today’s mattresses are built “one-sided,” it is still important to rotate your mattress end-for-end regularly. Rotating your mattress will help ensure that the comfort layers wear evenly over time.

As always, consult the warranty card that came with your mattress and adhere to the manufacturer's requirements if they differ from our suggestions here.

Tip #5: Dispose of your old sleep set

When you have your new bed delivered, have the old one removed and disposed at the nearest eco station. If it wasn’t good enough for you, it’s not good enough for anyone else!

Tip #6: Don’t remove the law tag or mattress label

No, you won’t go to prison for removing it, but you may give up your warranty rights. It’s also important to keep the mattress label intact. Should you ever have a warranty issue, the mattress manufacturer will need the label.

Tip #7: Let it breathe

When you receive your new mattress and foundation, let it air out for a few hours before making the bed.
