² - 36 x 72" was a common size in the middle part of the 20^th century. It is no longer a standard size.

³ - California Queen was used primarily as a replacement for wood-framed water beds and is nearly obsolete.

The vast majority of queen size mattresses found in recreational vehicles are actually 5 inches shorter than a standard queen. From May until August, The Mattress & Sleep Company regularly stocks this size. As most RV's mattresses are not used on a nightly basis, the mattress we normally stock is a good "reasonable priced" option. Standard kings will sometimes be referred to as Eastern King. One instance of this will be with Wesley Allen iron beds. It is important to know which type of king you prefer. Although the extra length of a California King is nice, it may be harder to find linens and bed frames that work with this size.

The Mattress & Sleep Company offers many Natura, St. Geneve and Wesley Allen products which are available in both varieties of king size.

Note that in terms of area, an Eastern King is the largest size available with a total area of 6,080 square inches. A California King has a total area of 6,048 square inches.

It is not uncommon for a particular mattress to not match up exactly to a size listed above. As many aspects of building a mattress are still done by hand, there will always be variations in sizing from one mattress to the next.
