We believe the Laroche white duck down duvet from St Geneve is easily one of the very best value-for-money duvet options today.

Canada is noted for raising some of the finest down in the world, and these wonderful products are proof. These white ducks are raised to be more mature and larger, and so the down is larger, puffier and more resilient. This 600 loft duck down is superior to many grades of goose down that are typically available in department stores. With this lovely down we have made a beautiful duvet and pillow collection that is wonderfully comfortable and hypoallergenic.

We believe the Laroche white duck down duvet from St Geneve is easily one of the very best value-for-money duvet options today.

About Fill Power (Loft)

Fill power is not the only aspect of a down duvet that determines quality, yet it is a very important factor in determining the potential total warmth of the duvet. For example, the down contained in a Queen Winter Weight Estate duvet would take up approximately 23,400 cubic inches of space (650 loft * 36 ounces of fill). A Maple Creek duvet in the same Queen Winter Weight actually adds up to 29,750 cubic inches (850 loft * 35 ounces of fill).

Perhaps most importantly, a Queen Classic Weight Maple Creek duvet equals 22,950 cubic inches. This means that a classic weight Maple Creek duvet will offer approximately equal warmth as a winter weight Estate. Higher quality down requires less filling, resulting in a lighter duvet better suited to year-round use. Since heavier duvets are more prone to disturbing rest, the lightest duvet possible is always best.

When we consider that higher quality down fillings also operate efficiently in larger temperature ranges, there is a clear reason for investing in a higher-quality fill.

Purchasing Advice - Summer, Classic or Winter?

After considering the basic concept of Fill Power or Loft, other important factors include room temperature, local climate and whether you tend to sleep warm or cool. Generally, warm sleepers in a warm bedroom will do better with a Summer duvet while cool sleepers in a cool bedroom will be better off with a Classic duvet. A Winter duvet is generally only recommended in lower fill powers or when the bedroom is not heated or extremely cool.

Buying Advice! If you're unsure, please start with a summer fill. It is possible to add additional down to a St Geneve duvet at any point in the future. However, due to the one-way nature of the European baffle boxes, it is not possible to remove down from a duvet. We offer an excellent programme with preferential pricing to help facilitate the addition of down to any St Geneve duvet purchased from The Mattress & Sleep Co., for the life of the duvet.

Higher quality duvets will provide a wider comfort range; they will be warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer than lower quality duvets. This is because higher quality down is better at all the things that down is famous for (such as insulation, lightness, breathability, etc) than lower quality down.

Temperature Range

Higher quality fills operate in a wider range of temperatures. It is always best to invest in the highest-quality fill possible.

Absolutely delighted - Review of St Geneve Laroche Duvet
5 out of 5 stars
11/25/2016
I am most impressed with this duvet, and especially with the salesperson. I went into the Calgary store explaining what I needed, and the salesperson took the time to explain the differences in down qualities. He recommended the Laroche because I wanted something very light for summer use, and explained that in this situation, the "entry level" St. Geneve duvet would suit me best. I'm glad I took his advice as this duvet is just perfect. I think in the winter, there isn't a chance it would be warm enough, but for summer use in the "summer" fill, it really is perfectly labelled.
