All-natural mattresses are one of our specialties, offering a genuine luxury sleep experience. Natural materials are breathable, regulating temperature and humidity, which contributes to a balanced sleep environment that is neither too hot nor too cold. Natural mattresses are exceptionally healthy and free of bothersome allergens.

A key raw material that natural mattresses must offer is 100% natural wool beneath the outer ticking. Wool is the only readily available, all-natural material that meets the stringent 16 CFR 1633 fire retardant standard, without resorting to chemicals.

    Why Choose Natural?

We believe natural bedding, mattresses and textiles offer considerable advantages over their synthetic counterparts in several key areas:

    • Natural materials are more breathable
    • Natural materials are better at regulating temperature
    • Natural materials are superior at absorbing excess moisture (polyester only absorbs about 1% of its weight in moisture, while sheep's wool absorbs 30-40%)
    • The natural materials used in our bath towel & rugs, bedding and mattresses are non-toxic
  • Natural vs. Organic

It is essential to note that "natural" and "organic" have distinct meanings. These differences are mostly down to marketing tactics. Organic certificates are not safety certificates. It is appropriate to view all organic certificates within the scope of marketing, not health or safety.

If organic certification is important to you, please view our organic mattress collection. t•masc mattresses are made in Canada, and all materials are entirely third-party certified organic.

The Truth About Chemicals in Mattresses

The Mattress & Sleep Company recommends reading our guide on the truth about chemicals in mattresses. This in-depth article discusses several critically important topics and helps distinguish between fear-mongering, marketing, and genuine facts.

Remember, everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical (H2O). There is no such thing as a chemical-free mattress, just as there is no such thing as a chemical-free anything.

    The Best Mattress

We're often asked, "What is the best mattress?" The Mattress & Sleep Company believes this can be answered by understanding our philosophy, The Elastic Bed Principle.

Your mattress should be constructed of highly elastic materials for these three straightforward reasons:

    1. Elastic materials conform better to the complex shape of the human body.
    2. Elastic materials rebound/bounce back to their original shape effortlessly, providing proper support from head to toe —not just the heaviest parts of the body.
    3. Elasticity IS support. It is imperative to understand that ‘softness’ and ‘firmness’ are entirely separate metrics and are only loosely related to support. The elastic and conforming response of a softer spring is much more supportive of the human body than the firm, overly stiff support of the floor.

Read more about The Elastic Bed Principle in our Spring Mattress Buying Guide.

  • Our TMASC spec. slat system. Hardwood slats with tight spacing ensures this wood platform bed will adequately support heavy mattresses.

    Platform Bed & Boxspring Guide

If you're investing in a new mattress, it's crucial to ensure that it is adequately supported. We have put together a Platform Bed & Boxspring Guide to help you understand the importance of proper support, and we answer common questions about voiding mattress warranties and whether your existing platform bed or boxspring will work with your new mattress.
