The Mattress & Sleep Company is well known for our fantastic selection of bedding and pillows. We search the world to offer Canadians top-quality luxury bedding.
Natural fibres are our specialty. While there are certainly some amazing synthetic materials available for bedding, natural materials deliver high performance. In the bedroom, one of the most important characteristics is how well a fibre absorbs and releases moisture, as the average person loses about 300-500 mL of moisture per night. Natural fibres such as linen, cotton and wool remain the superior choice for managing this moisture.
Contrast these natural materials for a moment with their synthetic 'equivalents.' These performance fabrics found in sporting gear, golf shirts, and similar apparel work on a very simple premise. These synthetics require significant air circulation to function properly. This is why these materials do not work in the bedroom environment. Fibres such as cotton or linen perform well without significant air circulation, making them well-suited to the bedroom.

About Egyptian Cotton
Certified Giza Egyptian Cotton is recognized as the finest cotton in the world and is used to produce select St Genève bed linens. Cultivated on the banks of the Nile, the cotton is picked by hand. The fibre is treated to create yarn of exceptional quality, resulting in superior softness, absorbency, durability and elegance.
Delving further into the types of Giza Egyptian Cotton, there are again differences when comparing between Long Staple (great), Extra-Long Staple (ELS, incredible), and Giza 92 (the best of the best).
Although it is common to see textiles, particularly bed linens and towels, labelled as made from "Egyptian cotton", genuine Egyptian cotton is exceedingly rare.
Based on 2025 global cotton production, only 0.2 to 0.4% of the total was Egyptian cotton. Giza Extra-Long Staple is even rarer. Giza 92, rarer still.
Towels, bathrobes and bed linens crafted from this marvellous and scarce resource are truly a luxurious indulgence for everyday comfort. -
Why Choose Natural?
We believe natural bedding, mattresses and textiles offer considerable advantages over their synthetic counterparts in several key areas:
- Natural materials are more breathable
- Natural materials are better at regulating temperature
- Natural materials are superior at absorbing excess moisture (polyester only absorbs about 1% of its weight in moisture, while sheep's wool absorbs 30-40%)
- The natural materials used in our bath towel & rugs, bedding and mattresses are non-toxic

Natural vs. Organic
It is essential to note that "natural" and "organic" have distinct meanings. These differences are mostly down to marketing tactics. Organic certificates are not safety certificates. It is appropriate to view all organic certificates within the scope of marketing, not health or safety.
If organic certification is important to you, please view our organic mattress collection. t•masc mattresses are made in Canada, and all materials are entirely third-party certified organic.
The Mattress & Sleep Company recommends reading our guide on the truth about chemicals in mattresses. This in-depth article discusses several critically important topics and helps distinguish between fear-mongering, marketing, and genuine facts.
Remember, everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical (H2O). There is no such thing as a chemical-free mattress, just as there is no such thing as a chemical-free anything.
